Chief Executive Approves Legislation to Disclose Further Jeffrey Epstein Records Following Months of Opposition
The US leader declared on Wednesday night that he had approved the legislation overwhelmingly endorsed by Congress members that directs the justice department to release more records related to Jeffrey Epstein, the deceased child sexual abuser.
This decision follows an extended period of resistance from the chief executive and his political allies in the legislature that divided his political supporters and created rifts with certain loyal followers.
Donald Trump had fought against disclosing the Epstein documents, calling the issue a "hoax" and condemning those who wanted to make the files available, notwithstanding promising their disclosure on the political campaign.
However he reversed course in the last week after it became apparent the House of Representatives would endorse the legislation. Trump stated: "Everything is transparent".
The details are unknown what the department will release in following the bill – the legislation details a range of various records that must be released, but includes exemptions for specific records.

The bill mandates the chief law enforcement officer to make public related files open for review "in a searchable and downloadable format", including all investigations into Jeffrey Epstein, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, aircraft records and movement logs, persons mentioned or identified in association with his illegal activities, organizations that were tied to his human trafficking or economic systems, protection agreements and other plea agreements, organizational messages about charging decisions, records of his detention and passing, and details about potential document destruction.
The justice department will have 30 days to submit the records. The bill contains certain exemptions, including removals of victims' identifying information or individual documents, any descriptions of minor exploitation, disclosures that would jeopardize ongoing inquiries or court proceedings and representations of fatality or mistreatment.
