England Coach Southee Unsure on The Ashes Availability
The bowler's last Test for the Kiwis was against the English side in December 2024.
England's bowling consultant Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the forthcoming Ashes contest in Australia.
The ex- New Zealand seamer is expected to be present for the first Test because of his involvement in the International League T20 competition, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.
Southee, aged 36, took up a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Speaking as England's team for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was named, Southee stated of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the present time.
"We will determine what happens over the coming days."
England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which starts on 21 November.
"I don't think there's ever a poor Aussie side," Southee said.
"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. In my opinion the quality of [the English] team that's going out to Australia is excellent.
"It ought to be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I think the whole cricket world is."
However, before the English team head to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
