Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

It said debris fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
