Match Background

Nottingham Forest v Malmö and past encounters. The two clubs have a unique relationship, also facing each other in Forest's last European campaign in the UEFA Cup of 1995-96, but it is the continental championship 46 years ago that entwines these two together, with Britain's first £1m player Trevor Francis heading the only goal of a rather dull championship game to secure historic victory for the the English club.

"Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, modestly dressed amid all the excitement and joy, stood for a moment on a bench quietly watching the revelry," wrote the match reporter. This represented an outstanding achievement that it is difficult to imagine happening again – from the lower league to continental competition in just three years."

Worth mentioning to consider Malmö, who became the first, and to date the last Scandinavian side to make the championship match under British coach Houghton.

This match is a very different to that summit, closer perhaps to the previous continental meeting between Forest and Malmö in 1995-96. Forest are absolutely buzzing after defeating Liverpool convincingly at Anfield on Saturday, while Malmö haven't played officially since early November following the completion of Allsvenskan. The general expectation is on the English side tonight.

Numerous other matches on offer in this clockwatch. Rangers have already been defeated by a Braga this season. Rangers are at the foot of the competition table at the half-way stage of the group stage with precisely zero points. They urgently require a victory if they are to have any opportunity for a comeback for a qualification place.

We'll keep you up to date with all the late games and provide the current standings from the earlier matches, including Aston Villa v Young Boys and Feyenoord v Celtic.
