This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
